Noctis Constellation license terms

Version 1.0 of these terms · October 7, 2026

These are the license terms of Noctis Constellation for Mac. The app shows the same text in Settings, under Terms, and the terms that come with the version you use are the ones that apply to it.

In short: a license is for one person, on up to 3 Macs, with every update of version 1. You can ask for a refund within 14 days of buying. Your repositories never leave your Mac. The sections below are the agreement.

1. The agreement

These terms are an agreement between you and Yonatan Ali Rodríguez Arias, who does business as Noctis Open Scientific Studio (“Noctis”), about the app Noctis Constellation for macOS.

By installing or using the app you accept them. If you do not accept them, do not use the app.

2. The trial

On each Mac you can use the complete app, free of charge, for 14 days from the first time you open it. After that the app asks for a license to keep working. Nothing in your repositories or your files changes when the trial ends.

3. Your license

When you buy a license, Noctis gives you the right to use version 1 of the app. The right is personal: it is yours, it is not exclusive and you cannot transfer it to someone else. It is not a subscription and it has no end date.

One license is for one person. You can activate it on up to 3 Macs that you use, and release an activation in Settings to move it to another Mac.

You can use the app for any work: personal, academic or commercial. When an organization buys a license, it is for the one person the organization gives it to.

A license that Noctis gives without a purchase is for the person or team named in it, under these same terms, and can have an end date.

4. Updates and later versions

Your license covers every release of version 1 (1.0, 1.1 and so on). A later major version, such as 2.0, may need a new license or a paid upgrade. Your license keeps working with version 1.

Noctis does not promise any particular update, feature or release date.

5. Refunds

If the app is not for you, ask for a refund within 14 days of buying and you will get it. A refunded license is no longer valid and may be deactivated.

Sales are handled by Lemon Squeezy, the reseller and merchant of record: it charges you, sends your receipt and your license key, and processes refunds. To ask for one, write through noctis-oss.org/support with your order number.

Nothing here limits the rights that the law of your country gives you as a consumer.

6. What you may not do

You may not share, publish, sell or rent your license key; resell, rent or sublicense the app; remove or get around the license check; or present the app or its lessons as your own work. This does not restrict what the law lets you do regardless of these terms.

7. Your data

The app works on your Mac. It has no accounts, analytics, telemetry or crash reports, and your repositories and your code are never sent anywhere.

It uses the network only for this: to read a public GitHub repository when you ask it to; to activate, deactivate and, about once a week, check a license key bought in the store, sending only the key and the identifier of its activation; and, once a day, to ask anonymously whether a later version has been published, which you can turn off in Settings.

The terminal of the app is a real shell: the commands you run there make whatever connections they make.

The app never reads, keeps or shows who bought a key. Lemon Squeezy handles the purchase under its own terms and privacy policy, and Noctis does not receive your card or payment details. Noctis can see the name and email of an order in the store’s records, and uses them only to help with that order.

8. Git and your repositories

The explorer only reads your repositories. The terminal, and the actions that create a project or start a repository, do what you ask them to. You are responsible for the commands you run and for keeping copies of your work.

The app uses the Git installed on your Mac. Git is not part of the app and has its own license.

9. Open-source components

The app includes open-source components, among them Electron, React, PixiJS, xterm.js, node-pty and Phosphor Icons, each under its own license. These terms do not limit the rights those licenses give you.

10. Ownership

The app is licensed, not sold. Noctis keeps every right in the app, its name, its design and its lessons that these terms do not give you.

Your repositories, and whatever you make with the app, are yours.

11. No warranty

The app is provided as it is. As far as the law allows, Noctis gives no warranty that it will fit a particular purpose, work without interruption or be free of errors. Where the law gives you a warranty that cannot be excluded, you have it.

12. Limit of liability

As far as the law allows, Noctis is not liable for lost data, lost profits or other indirect damage from using the app, and its total liability to you is limited to what you paid for your license. This does not limit liability that the law does not allow to be limited.

13. When the license ends

Your license lasts for as long as you keep to these terms. If you break them it ends, and you must stop using the app. You can stop using the app at any time.

14. Changes to these terms

Each version of the app carries its own terms, in its Settings. Those that come with the version you use are the ones that apply to it. A later version may come with updated terms.

15. Law and language

These terms are governed by the laws of Mexico. Nothing in them takes away the consumer protection you have under the law of the country where you live.

They are written in English and in Spanish. If the two differ, the Spanish text prevails.
