    Checked against the books

Every capability of Noctis Effect is tested against worked examples and problems from engineering textbooks, among them Hibbeler, Beer & Johnston, Logan, and Singer & Pytel. Each problem is modelled in the app and its printed answers are compared automatically every time the app is built.

Version 1.0 covers every capability it ships with: 471 printed textbook examples and 2,294 checks, from reactions and member forces to deflections, safety factors and 3D frames. 96 of those problems are also solved again as 3D models, and the ten tutorials end on a printed answer too.

    What this means for you

The solver uses the same methods as the books: equilibrium for determinate structures and the direct stiffness method for linear elastic analysis, first order, with small displacements and no P-Δ effects. The report states these assumptions and verifies equilibrium with its residual.

Noctis Effect is a tool for learning and for checking structures. It does not replace the judgement of a qualified engineer or the review a project requires.

    Example notebooks

Validation problems become example notebooks, so you can open a textbook problem already modelled, compare it with your own solution and change it to see what happens.
