Space trusses and frames

Build 3D structures from templates or from scratch, and solve them in an interactive viewport.

Examples, downloads and media retain their original language.

    Start from a template

A new Space truss starts from a template: Empty, Pyramid, Tower, Double-layer grid, Gable roof, Bridge, the 25-bar tower benchmark, or a generic Baja SAE or FSAE chassis. Most templates take parameters such as spans, modules or panels before they are created.

    Nodes first, then members

In 3D you place nodes with the Node tool on the work plane, then join them with Member by tapping from node to node. Work plane chooses the plane you draw on and its offset; touch a node to type its exact x, y and z.

Supports can be a pin, roller, slider or fixed support, or any combination of components. Forces are given by components, along a global axis, along a bar or towards another node.

    Truss or frame

A truss carries axial force only, with pinned joints. Switch the structure to Frame and its members also bend and twist, with rigid joints: give each member its section, roll angle β and end releases, and the supports can hold rotations and take couples.
